Walnut - S3S (Surfaced 3 Sides) 3-Piece Lumber Pack
Black Walnut - S3S
A favorite among woodworkers, our signature color-rich Black Walnut is now available in S3S.
Developed with the intermediate woodworker in mind, S3S has been surface planed on both faces with a straight-line rip on at least one edge (and one rough edge), giving maximum width and thickness to work with and an easier way to get parallel edges than rough lumber. We recommend S3S products for anyone who has access to basic woodworking equipment and who wants the satisfaction of doing their own milling (we recommend having at least a table saw and thickness planer).
Available in 2 grades, Clear 2 Face (C2F) and Clear 1 Face (C1F), you can expect the same level of quality that we're known for, at a more economical price. For both grades, you will see consistent color and texture between your boards.
What you get:
3 boards of lumber that have been surface hit-or-miss and straight-line ripped one edge. Individual board widths can range from 4" to 7.5", for a guaranteed total of at least 18" in width. Thickness will be around 1/16" off of nominal (e.g. 4/4 = 15/16"), though some variation may be expected.
Always flat rate shipping! Shipping for S3S will be a flat rate of $14.95 per order, no matter how many bundles you order.
Clarity (Grade):
C2F is for applications that require 2 clear, exposed faces with no defects. Here's what you can expect from C2F:
- 2 clear faces

- At least 90% dark heart color on one face and at least 70% heart color on reverse face.
- Consistent grain texture and color
C1F is for 1 exposed face applications, or if you don't mind doing a little work filling a small defect on the reverse face. Here's what you can expect from C1F:
- Clear at least 1 face.

- At least 90% dark heart color on one face and at least 50% heart color on reverse face.

About North American Black Walnut
Black Walnut (juglans nigra) is the king of all North American hardwood species. We produce our walnut lumber through careful log selection, steaming for uniform color, air drying, kiln drying, stress relief and final inspection. Our lumber products achieve the highest quality, stability and color consistency that the industry has to offer.
Walnut is well known for its strength, machinability, stability, beauty and warmth to human touch. It is an ideal choice for fine furniture, table and bar counter tops or as an accent to mix with other wood species. It is also commonly used in the automobile industry, knife making and for gunstocks for its luxurious appearance. When finished, black walnut is dark with distinct grain features. Walnut’s color naturally lightens and shifts hue as it ages.
