A perfect blend of Pure Tung Oil and natural, food-grade Citrus Solvent thinner. We find that some projects require the thick viscosity of Pure Tung Oil to be thinned for better absorption into the surface. Half & Half is great for projects large and small, and this pre-mixed solution means less work for you. Half & Half makes for easier application with the same great protection properties of Pure Tung Oil.

Enhance the natural beauty of your hardwood creations with Half & Half by Real Milk Paint Company. This premium, hard-drying wood oil is perfect for finishing items made from our hardwood lumber, such as walnut and hard maple

Half & Half by Real Milk Paint Co is FDA-approved for food contact, making it an ideal choice for kitchenware, cutting boards, serving trays, and even butcher block countertops.

Tips for Working with Half & Half

  • Avoid Sunlight: Do not apply or leave fresh tung oil in direct sunlight—it may flash cure and turn white and hazy.
  • Do Not Sand Between Coats: Sanding works fine for tung oil varnishes, but not for Half & Half.
  • Stain Before Applying: Use a water-based stain for color before applying tung oil.
  • No Oil-Based Sealers: Avoid using Half & Half over oil-based sealers, stains, or finishes.
  • No need to thin: With Citrus Solvents already mixed in, no need for extra thinners for most projects. In some cases of very dense wood, extra citrus thinner can be mixed in.
  • Number of Coats: Apply 1-2 coats for decorative pieces; 3-6 coats for surfaces with heavy use. Wait 24 hours between coats, apply until the wood no longer absorbs oil.
  • Maintenance Coats: Thin coats can be applied as needed.
  • Cleaning: Once fully cured (30 days), clean with hot water and mild soap—avoid harsh chemicals or acids.
