8/4" (1-13/16) Dimensional Cherry Lumber

Our dimensional 8/4 cherry wood is sourced from select regions that produce the finest true black cherry lumber (prunus serotina) in North America.

Cherry wood can be straight-grained or figured.  It has a reddish brown heart wood and the sapwood is bright yellow, sometimes with natural gum spots.  Gum spots are characteristic of cherry boards and cannot be entirely eliminated, but North Castle Hardwoods keeps a low gum level on our material by restricting our logging area to places where the finest-quality logs can mature.

Cherry lumber is a strong and durable hardwood, making it an ideal choice for furniture, table tops and architectural applications such as cabinetry. It has a low sap content and smooth satiny texture, and its rich red tones deepen with age. Cherry is moderately heavy and softer than maple, making it easy to work with while still providing superior strength.

Working with Cherry Lumber

Cherry has a smooth texture that lends itself well to being worked with. While we love oil and wax as a finish to bring out the beauty of its natural grain and character, black cherry can readily take on any other stain or finishing material such as lacquer or polyurethane.

When working with any hardwood, please wear a protective mask that filters out dust particles that could be harmful to your health.
